I have chosen to make public my political opinions here because I believe that science and politics are inextricably linked. To put it simply, as citizens, we benefit from well-research public policy based on scientific research to improve our lives. As scientists, especially space scientists, we rely on politics for our funding. In short, when science works for policy we get better government, and when policy works for science, we getter better science.
